Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a big juicy sausage every now and again (stop sniggering at the back!).

However, regular sausages are full of low-quality fatty meat (and crucially, low in leucine which is essential for building muscle), meaning they’re often reserved for a cheat meal at best.

The same goes for oven chips — they’re usually saturated with vegetable oil, which disturbs your body’s Omega 3-Omega 6 balance, increasing your risk of developing nasty diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

Luckily this recipe saves the day, so you can enjoy this delicious pub classic without sacrificing your health.

These MuscleFood Chicken Sausages are made with 100% breast meat, meaning they’re packed with quality protein, but that doesn’t come at the expense of taste. Our recipe turns them golden brown and gorgeously caramelised, so they have a little crunch on the outside and melt in the mouth on the inside.

If the macros for this recipe don’t suit you, it’s easy to tweak them. Make more or less chips to tweak the carb content, and you can serve with our Healthy Homemade Mayonnaise or our Healthy Guacamole to boost the fat content.

Method

  1. Prepare your chips and get them cooking in the oven according to our Healthy Homemade Oven Chips recipe.
  2. As soon as the chips are in the oven, put a non-stick frying pan on a low heat and add the two sausages. You don’t need any oil for these!
  3. Keep frying the sausages over a low heat for 20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes to make sure they get cooked evenly and get nice and caramelised. Don’t forget to turn the chips too!
  4. After about 15 minutes of cooking the sausages, trim the white ends off the asparagus and chuck them in the frying pan alongside the sausages so they soak up all the delicious juices.
  5. Once the sausages have turned golden brown all over (about 20-25 mins on a low heat), remove them from the pan and dish up alongside the chips and asparagus.
  6. If you like chips with mayo, then you’ll love this served with our Healthy Homemade Mayonnaise (it helps boost the fat content of this meal too).
