Everyone has stubborn areas of fat, and when you start a fat burning program, these stubborn areas of fat will usually come off last. Here are a few tips to help you on your quest – each may add 5% to your results, but together that adds up to a lot! Pick and choose depending on what fits your lifestyle:

1. Start exercising before breakfast

With no food in your system your body will turn directly to stored fats for energy. Taking BCAAs before fasted workouts has been shown to help prevent losing muscle mass, so drink 5-10g with water beforehand!

2. Include resistance training as well as cardio

Resistance training will increase your lean body mass and your metabolic rate. This means you will burn more fat even when not exercising!

3. Cut out carbs

Carbs cause the body to release insulin, and when insulin is present in the bloodstream the body would rather store those carbs as body fat instead of burning body fat. Try cutting out carbs for a couple of weeks and eat lots of healthy fats, vegetables and proteins.

4. Try intermittent fasting

Only eat between 12pm and 8pm. After a 12 hour fast, your body switches to burning stored body fat for energy. Yes, you will feel hungry at first, but that will pass, and you will feel great when you see the results!

5. Choose clean, healthy food sources

As simple as this sounds, the more natural and the more unprocessed your foods are, the more efficiently your body will work. An efficient body burns more fat than an inefficient one!

6. Consistency

Whatever diet and exercise program you choose to follow, start following it now, and stick to it (not tomorrow, not next week, NOW!). Set yourself rules for your diets and workouts and stick to them for a few months at least. Giving up means you’re right back to square one, hang in there as hard work is nothing without consistency!

7. Avoid stress

It may sound ridiculous at first, but stress can actually increase belly fat. Stress increases cortisol levels, and high cortisol levels have been found to cause an increase in fat, specifically in the belly area. Try to avoid stress at all costs  – give yourself time to relax and don’t let things get to you. This will keep your hormones in check, improving your body along the way.
