Goal setting is important when developing your perfect body. If you don’t know what you are trying to achieve, then how can you expect to achieve something? This article will help you set goals to achieve your perfect body and give you some recommendations for the measurements of that perfect physique!

We can compare goal setting with driving a car. You don’t set off on a journey without a destination, or any idea of how you will get there. This is because  you know that without these crucial pieces of information, you are extremely unlikely to get to anywhere useful!

If you’re smart, you’ll leave with a planned destination in mind. You will either already know the route, or you will use a Sat Nav (GPS) to help guide you towards your goal.

Here are the key points that you need to know for successful goal setting:

Know Your Destination

Goal setting is knowing your destination. When it comes to building your perfect body, this could be a desire to look like a particular fitness model/athlete or to improve certain body parts – such as burning belly fat for a six-pack. Just aim to become the best possible version of yourself!

You should also have some idea of how to get to your destination. Having a structured nutrition, diet and training plan can help a lot as you will know what you should be doing every single day. Check out our training plans if you want a structured plan supported by TeamTEG.

Quantify Your Targets

Quantifying your targets when goal setting is crucial to achieving your goals. Use numbers to keep you focused and allow you to track your progress.

You can set goals for proportions, body weight, body fat, how much you can lift in the gym and many more things on top of that. For example, rather than saying you want to get bigger arms, you could set a target for 16″ arms in their tensed state.

Set Deadlines

In addition to setting the goals themselves, you should also set realistic deadlines to achieve these goals. It’s all too easy to keep pushing goals back and never actually achieve them.

For example, you might want to increase leg size. There’s no point saying you want 36″ Mr Olympia legs by next summer if you’re a natural athlete and only have 20″ thighs now. A more realistic goal could be to add 2″ to your legs over the next 6 months so your goal would be 22″ legs by December 2014.
